Q. I deleted a work order and now have a gap in the work order
sequence. What do I do now?
A. You can just leave a gap in the sequence and go on with your life or
you can use the following procedure to re-use the missing number.
1. Create a new work order.
2. Tab to the work order number field and enter the desired number.
Q. My customer owes me $1025.00 of which $25.00 is a service charge,
and I got a check for $1015.00. I want to make sure I get the service
charge first and leave a $10.00 outstanding balance on the invoice. How
do I do this?
A. A variation of the following technique can work in many situations
where you need to specifically apply a payment to a particular item.
Of course if you drag the whole $1015.00 check to pay off the invoice
($1000.00, remember $25.00 was a service charge), you will be left with
only a $15.00 check balance to drag to the service charge grid. The
solution is to enter the check as TWO checks (using the same check
number). Make the first one for $25.00 and, with the appropriate invoice
set as the current row in the invoice grid, drag the balance to the
service charge grid. Create a new transaction and enter the balance of
the check ($990.00) and drag it over to pay the invoice. You will now
have the complete service charge and will have left the balance of the
original missing $10.00 outstanding.
It sounds a little complicated but if you are actually doing it while
looking at the payments form, you will discover it is very easy.
Q. Someone who is not a regular customer comes in for a product. When
I try to generate a Point of Sale invoice the program complains because
he is not in the customer database. Do I have to enter the name of every
soul that comes through the door?
A. Make an entry in the customer database to handle sales for people who
are not regular customers. You might call it "Miscellaneous Customer" or
something like that. (Thanks Bobby)
